Phu Quoc Airport (PQC) Arrival Guide: Immigration, Baggage and Transfers

Phu Quoc’s airport is small and close to everything — but busy when international flights land together. Here is how to arrive smoothly.

· 2 min read

Phu Quoc International Airport (PQC) is the gateway to Vietnam’s largest island. It is compact and close to the main town, but it handles many international charter and scheduled flights, so arrival times can cluster — and so can queues.

Where is the airport?

The airport is in the middle of the island’s west side:

  • Duong Dong town: roughly 10 km, often 15–20 minutes by car.
  • Southern resorts (around An Thoi and the south coast): usually 20–40 minutes.
  • Northern resorts and the far north: can take closer to an hour.

Your transfer time depends a lot on where your resort is — worth knowing before you land.

Entry rules: check before you fly

Phu Quoc has had special visa-exemption rules for some international arrivals that differ from the rest of Vietnam. Conditions apply (for example, arriving directly to Phu Quoc and staying on the island), and rules change — check the current rules for your nationality before you travel, and carry your onward ticket and accommodation details. The official e-visa portal for Vietnam is evisa.gov.vn.

Our service assists you through the airport process; it does not replace any entry requirement.

Arrival step by step

  1. Disembark and follow the signs to arrivals.
  2. Immigration — passport and any required documents ready. When several international flights land together, this is the slowest part.
  3. Baggage claim — check the screen for your belt.
  4. Customs and exit to the arrivals area, with SIM cards, money exchange and pickup points.

A fast track assistant meets you, guides you through formalities using priority lanes where available, and helps with your bags — especially helpful after a long-haul flight or with children.

Getting to your resort

  • Pre-booked private transfer — a driver waiting at the exit; the easiest choice, especially for resorts in the north or south of the island.
  • Resort shuttle — some resorts offer one; confirm timing and meeting point in advance.
  • Taxi or ride-hailing — available, with possible waits at peak times.

Tips for Phu Quoc arrivals

  • Charter flights often arrive late at night — pre-book your transfer.
  • Save your resort’s name and address in Vietnamese and English.
  • Carry some cash for small purchases; card acceptance varies outside resorts.
  • Families: ask for child seats in advance.
